Tom Cruise to play Jack Reacher in One Shot?

*Tom Cruise is in talks to star as Jack Reacher in Christopher
McQuarrie’s adaptation of One Shot, according to a report by
Deadline.*

One Shot is one of 15 Jack Reacher novels by British author Lee Child.
The popular character is a military-man-turned-drifter, who wanders
across the US getting tangled up in various crimes.

Christopher McQuarrie is best known as a screenwriter (he penned _The
Usual Suspects_ and Cruise’s _Valkyrie_), and this will be his
first time in the director’s chair since the underrated _The Way
Of The Gun_ in 2000.

Cruise is a potentially controversial choice for Reacher, a stoic
tough-guy who’s 6’5” and built like a tank.

It could be difficult for audiences to buy the iconic movie star as an
intimidating hard man, but if he pulls it off, it could be an
invaluable reinvention to launch him into a new phase in his career.

The actor is certainly keeping himself busy with an admirably varied
bunch of blockbusters: having finished work on _Mission: Impossible
– Ghost Protocol_, he’s currently shooting musical _Rock
Of Ages_.

He’s also committed to sci-fi epic _Oblivion_ for _TRON: Legacy_
director Joseph Kosinski.

If he signs for _One Shot_, it’s expected to go before the
cameras ahead of _Oblivion_.
